Frequently Asked Questions

All the information on food, accomodation, facilities and special events
you'll need to know to get the most out of your Bokissa stay!

Q: How much does it cost to stay at Bokissa?
A: Accommodation costs depend on the time of year, and availability, but as a rough guide, you will pay around AUD$400 per room per night for two adults in a Beachfront Fare’. This cost includes all meals, and transfers to and from the local airport which is a 5 minute car ride and a 40 minute fast boat ride to Bokissa. We often have special offers that are featured on our website or our Facebook page. You can also email our Australian Sales Office to be included on our data base for great deals during the year. We also like to look after our return guests with extra special offers!

Q: Is there a restaurant on Bokissa?
A: Not as such.. All meals are included in your package, and are freshly cooked in our professional kitchen, often using fresh local ingredients grown organically on the island. Fresh fish, lobsters, prawns, and other seafood is purchased from the local fisherman from that day’s catch, and is of the highest quality. We also purchase premium beef from the local stock station, Santo Beef is exported worldwide and many of our guests rate our steak as a highlight of the trip! Our chefs also cater for all special dietary requests.

Q: What meals are provided?
A: Breakfast starts at 7am is a simple continental meal, with fresh baked bread, condiments, cereal, juices, fresh fruit, and tea and coffee. A full cooked breakfast can be provided at a nominal extra cost.

Lunch & dinner are both fresh hot cooked meals made by our local chefs, and you’ll choose from several options, depending on what local fresh produce and meats are available that day. All produce is of the highest and freshest quality, and most fruits and vegetables come from neighbouring islands. Our guests often say the food is a highlight of the stay!

Q: Am I able to order a meal in-between times?
A: While we have some small snacks available, it should be remembered that Bokissa is a fairly remote island, and we run our stocks of food and beverages very carefully to avoid spoiling and wastage. This creates some limitations on the adhoc service of food, which is why we decided many years ago to provide meals at set times as part of the package. If you’re really into snacking, it’s a great idea to bring them with you before you arrive.

Don’t worry though.. the meals are very tasty, with generous portions.. you won’t go hungry! That said, don't be afraid to ask for huge servings, and you can always take some fruit from breakfast with you to your room.

Q: Are we allowed to visit the local village on Bokissa?
A: The local village is where all of the Bokissa staff live, along with their families. They’re more than happy to receive visitors, but please remember, you’re visiting their home, and this is their down time.. they’re not there to serve our guests at this time! Just check with any of the staff to make sure the time is convenient.

If you feel like it, the kids have limited access to toys and coloring-in books and small gifts are always appreciated and treasured.

Q: Can we visit the nearby islands, or go to Santo?
A: To get to Santo is a 30 minute trip by boat, and is a service we’re happy to provide upon request. We don’t have a regular boat service back to the mainland as our boats are busy doing guest activities most days. We can schedule a trip to Luganville for you if you desire. The price of the return trip changes depending on the price of diesel fuel, which is quite expensive in Vanautu, but you should expect a cost of around US$150 for a return trip.

Q: Is there a day spa or massage available?
A: Yes! Bokissa offers massages down by the beach, performed by our very own in-house masseuses. Full body massage is 4,000VATU (approx. $50AUD) per hour and couples can have a massage together for 3,500VATU per hour per person.

Q: Can you cater for food intolerances and vegetarians?
A: Absolutely! Just be aware that soy substitutes and other vegetarian staples are not common in Santo, and as a result, the majority of your food will consist of salads made from locally grown produce. Certain food intolerances can also be catered for, but please let us know in advance so we can let our chefs know to make preparations! Most guests bring along their special flours, cereals etc.

Q: How large are the bungalows?
A: The bungalows are approximately 4m x 4m (16m2) and come with a queen bed, a single bed, and an ensuite bathroom. The rooms are comfortable, although with relatively basic facilities.. remember, you’re on a relatively remote tropical island! There are other room types that are larger and can cater for families or couples travelling together.

Q: What facilities are in the bungalows?
A: The emphasis on Bokissa is exploring the island, the local reefs, or relaxing on the beach, and in recognition of this, the bungalows are modestly equipped. There is a fridge with mini-bar containing snacks and drinks, and a hair dryer in each bungalow, but no TV. If you’d like to watch movies, you'll want to bring a laptop with movies pre-loaded!

Q: Are the bungalows air conditioned?
A: Yes, all of the bungalows are fully air conditioned. Our staff will turn your systems on after dinner to make sure your rooms are nice and cool when you’re ready to go to bed.

Please note, as we are an eco-friendly resort, air conditioning is run from 8pm to 6am every day.

Q: Do the bungalows have internet (wi-fi)? A: While the bungalows do not have wifi or internet, the main hall has wifi, which is available for a small fee. Internet on the island is fairly slow though, so you probably won’t be able to do much more than send/receive emails. We like to give our guests a “digital detox” when they come to Bokissa!

Q: What electricity plug type is used in Vanautu?
A: The plugs used in Vanautu are the same as in Australia & New Zealand, 240V with 3 flat prongs, the top two at an angle, and the bottom prong vertical. For more information click here

Q: Is Bokissa available for functions such as weddings, or birthdays?
A: Here at Bokissa we have played host to some truly stunning weddings and birthday events. We take great pride in making your special day the most amazing it can be, and we have the photos to prove it! Please make sure to book well in advance, especially if you’re thinking of booking the whole resort. For enquiries on pricing and dates, please contact

Q: How does the wedding package work?
A: Bokissa offers everything for a truly memorable wedding ceremony with a variety of sites for the actual wedding and all the ingredients for a wonderful honeymoon. Bokissa is also perfect for small groups to have their own South Pacific Island for their wedding…..

Our wedding coordinator will take care of all the arrangements, including the legal requirements, and discuss with you where on the island you wish to be married - on the beach in the glow of a fabulous sunset, our beautiful gardens, or perhaps in the tropical rainforest. It’s the ultimate in romance! Our wedding package is approximately $1800.00AUD
