5 reasons why you'll love your Vanuatu holiday at Bokissa Private Island Resort
That's Frederique and me in the photo of a romantic dinner on the pier of Bokissa - taken on Valentine's day. We are drinking a champagne toast to our mutual enjoyment of our Vanuatu vacation. It was a holiday Frederique and I will never forget. That was our first visit to Bokissa and we've returned again to make sure it was as good as we remembered it. It was and it is. We'll be back.
Freddy and I have been trying to think of how to tell you what's so great about this little private island resort just to the southeast of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu.
Attraction or appreciation of a place is something that is really a matter of the heart - it's something you feel - and difficult to explain. Afterwards you can try to highlight the main points but in the end, the reasons you like a place are a combination of a thousand little things, plus yourself and the person you are with.
So here are 5 reasons, in my words and frederique's, why we think your stay in Bokissa will be the best holiday you've ever had.

1. Comfortable seclusion -
Seclusion is great but I have to be comfortable at the same time to really appreciate it. My holiday time is private - I want to be with myself or with my love and the rest of the planet can do whatever it wants.

|
1. The privacy -
You can go on the beach in a bikini and sunbathe topless and nobody is going to be watching from the bushes.
If you don't want to see anybody you don't - if you want to be sociable you can. |
2. A feeling of attunement with nature -
I laze in the hammock in the green shade of the big trees behind the beach and am stunned by the luminous blue of the sea. I walk through a lush rain forest along an easy, well kept path and see a rare flightless bird ambling along in front of me. Bokissa is a tiny gateway where my mind resonates with nature. And there are no snakes, no nasty bugs, no thorns tormenting my enjoyment. These quiet moments of attunement are the most enriching experiences of my life and I'll go a long way to find them. Aboriginal people call places like Bokissa "a place of power" where the forces of nature are strong. They are often reserved as "sacred" places which is, perhaps, why Bokissa is now a nature reserve. |
2. The reefs, the colours, the flowers, the smells -
The reefs - they are really pretty and right there. The colour of the water. The flowers - the orchids, the huge frangipani trees. The smells, night blooming "ladies of the night" flowers that smell so good, mixed with open ocean sea breezes after they come through the rain forest. It smells clean and fresh and natural.

3. Acceptance -
I don't think of the owners and staff of Bokissa as owners and staff. They are friendly, helpful, and kind people. People you quickly decide are friends. That's very special, it really adds to the comfort factor when the people around you are happy and peaceful. You sense that they are happy when you are happy but also notice that they are not looking over your shoulder to see if you are happy or not. If you see what I mean. |
3. Friendly.
I like the people there. It's one big happy family basically.

|
4. Excellent Activities -
At Bokissa you do your own thing - or you join in an activity.
The facilities for having fun are outstanding. Good quality gear, well maintained, great places to go.
Fabulous diving on the totally protected reefs (fun with an underwater water scooter), deep sea fishing where you actually catch fish but wouldn't care if you didn't, the nicest swimming pool you'll find anywhere, good tours to different islands, hammocks, an easy way to adventure (or relax) in style. |
4. Do what you want.
You get up in the morning and the beach is right there, you have the swimming pool, a path around the island, you can go kayaking, relax on the beach.

|
5. Wonderful meals and drinks
Breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's family style (unless, like the photo above, you request a private romantic dinner) and I can tell you the wines are the best, the food delicious, the water perfectly safe to drink, and the kitchen is spotless with the best equipment. |
5. The food
It's nice healthy, first class food. And since it's buffet style you can pick what you want. You can eat with everybody else and be sociable or eat by the pool or on the pier or even have breakfast in bed. |

Well, that's that a few of our personal reasons why we think Bokissa is the best holiday location in the South Pacific and certainly the ideal Vanuatu Island resort.
